International Juried Photography Call for Entry

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) invites photographers world-wide to submit images using any photographic process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and white, color etc.). Winners will receive a total of $4,000 in cash awards, be featured in the NYC4PA Online Gallery and Award Winners Catalog. The Grand Prize winning image will be posted on the NYC4PA home page. This is an NYC4PA Summer call and like the Midwinter contest there is no gallery show but our cash prizes are higher.
SECONDARY COLORS: ORANGE, PURPLE, GREEN
Orange is red brought nearer to humanity by yellow.
Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.
A garden of purple is always in bloom!
NYC4PA "Primary Colors" calls for entry have been some of our favorite contests. Though red, yellow and blue are, in fact, primary colors they not the not the only important hues out there for the color photographer.
SECONDARY COLORS: ORANGE, GREEN,and PURPLE are as impactful and can be the foundation for equally compelling imagery. Images in which one of these colors stands out as a critical element are what we are looking for. It can be a black and white with a single point of color, a Green, Orange or Purple monochrome, or any image where a SECONDARY COLOR stands out as a focal point. The possibilities in nature alone are endless with green leaves and lawns, orange bursts of autumn color and purple flowers as well as magical purple hazes that can set off late afternoon scenes. Clothing, pumpkins, traffic lights, automobiles, the list goes on and on.
Once again we invite your best and most creative.
NOTE: For each image you will select one of the categories ORANGE, PURPLE or GREEN.
EXHIBITION AND AWARDS:
There will be 10 cash prizewinners, 21 Juror Selections and 20 Honorable Mentions
Grand Prize: One photographer will receive $1100. The image will be featured on the home page of the NYC4PA website.
First Prize: 3 photographers, one each in ORANGE, PURPLE and GREEN will receive $400.
Second Prize: 3 photographers, one each in ORANGE, PURPLE and GREEN, will receive $325.
Third Prize: 3 photographers, one each in ORANGE, PURPLE and GREEN, will receive $250.
ONLINE GALLERY, CATALOG and AWARD CERTIFICATE:
All prizewinners will be included in both the online gallery and catalog and be presented with a certificate.
This Call for Entries is open worldwide to both amateur and professional photographers. NYC4PA invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate. Experimental and mixed techniques are welcome. Only 2-D work is eligible.
IMAGES SELECTED FOR A PRIZE IN THE PAST THREE YEARS OF ANY NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. IF THEY ARE SUBMITTED AND SELECTED BY THE JUROR THEY WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. IMAGES PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED THAT WERE NOT SELECTED FOR A PRIZE MAY BE RESUBMITTED AT ANY TIME.
The entry fee is $35 for the first three images. Additional images may be submitted for $10 each. There is no limit to the number of images submitted.
Prepare your images as follows
- JPG, TIF, or PNG files with the longest side 1,280 pixels.
- Select a unique name for each image so you can identify images when we send notification. Tea Glass1 Tea Glass 2 can be difficult. Two images with the exact same name and then a paragraph description as difficult.
- We prefer shorter names.
- Filenames with special characters may not load properly
- If you are working in Photoshop, and are using the image size screen, the file size indicated at the top is the size before any compression applied in the save process. Please save the file as a JPG and then look at the file size. It should be perfect.

JUROR: CLAUDIA SOHRENS
Claudia Sohrens is an artist from Germany. Her work expounds on the notion of the artist as researcher, archivist, producer and circulator, is featured in private collections and has been presented in numerous group and solo exhibitions nationally and internationally. As an independent curator, she has worked on many projects, including the "Pop-Up Archive" at Mana, the “Action Archive” at A.I.R, the Foto/Pod "What is a photograph?" at Photoville as well as the exhibition titled “Ulrike ist Schuld” at the German Embassy in New York.
She has been awarded several fellowships including the VSC residency (2018), the ICP Artist Residency at Mana (2018), A.I.R. Fellowship (2014-5), 2010 NYFA Fellowship for Photography (2010) ,and the AIM23 Artist Residency at the Bronx Museum (2002). Her long-term photographic research project 'Mise En Abyme: Archive', has fiscal sponsorship through Artspire/NYFA, where she also serves as a mentor for NYFA’s Immigrant Artist Program since 2011.
Claudia is a teaching artist for Youth Media Programs with Artists Space, BRIC Arts & Media and Sotheby's Art Institute. She is currently Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute and faculty at the International Center for Photography.

All entrants to NYC4PA Open Calls for Entry, by virtue of their submission, are attesting that the images submitted are their own work and there has been no copyright infringement. NYC4PA will not be held liable for any infringement of rights that might surface during the jurying or displaying of any image.
By submitting you grant NYC4PA the right to use your image(s) for promotion and advertisement of NYC4PA as well as inclusion in the NYC4PA catalog if the image is prize winning, juror selection or honorable mention.
Should your award notification or prize be returned as undeliverable, NYC4PA will not resend the notice (whether by the same or another method,) research your address nor make any further attempts at delivery, and your submission will be deemed ineligible. Please be careful when entering all your contact information.
Cash Prize winners living outside the United States will be responsible for costs incurred for wire transfer if PayPal is unavailable .
UNITED STATES TAXES - All winners are required to pay tax on prizes. This happens at the end of each calendar year. For Non US residents the tax amount is 30% paid through NYC4PA as US representative. NYC4PA will withhold this amount from your winnings. For U.S. citizens with total winnings accrued through NYC4PA of $600 or more, we are required to file, and provide the artist with, a copy of a 1099 tax form. If this is the case, you will need to provide NYC4PA with tax ID information in January of the following year.
As a submitter NYC4PA will include you in future mailings and announcements. If you would prefer NOT to be on our mailing list please log onto and ask to be removed.
NON U.S. APPLICANTS:
Our entry software has an address field for the state you live in. This applies to the US and several other countries - if you do not have “state” as part of your address simply leave that field blank - it is not mandatory.
