Photographers Maddi Ring and Patricia Gilman, as members of a photography organization, had produced several gallery shows in New York City. We saw how exciting and motivating these exhibitions were to the photographers and wanted to expand those opportunities.  So, in August 2012 we created the New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) with a mission to provide exhibition opportunities to fellow photographers worldwide.  But, as with everything, the world does change, and after the pandemic, with NY gallery space no longer feasible for our artists, we modified our model while continuing to support the photographic community.  The modification was an increase in cash prizes awarded.    
 
Today we continue to sponsor international open calls, juried by respected members of the photography community, where submitters compete for cash prizes and online web gallery presence. We strive to create themes that are inspiring to photographers and fun to work with.  NYC4PA sponsors seven - nine themed contests each year. To date, we have juried hundreds of thousands of images and continue to support a prize model that includes generous cash awards. 
 
Beyond calls for entry, in 2015 we offered a unique travel experience to Greenland, and several years after that, we expanded exhibition opportunities with photographer representation at major art fairs such as ARTEXPO in New York City, Santa Fe and Art Basel in Miami, Florida.
 
We hope we inspire photographers to expand their horizons. Our advice is simple:
