DEADLINE: September 10, 2023  (Midnight Pacific Time)

(All entrants are notified of prize status via E mail about 3 weeks after the deadline)

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) invites photographers world-wide to submit images using any photographic process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and white, color etc.). Winners will receive a total of $4,000 in cash awards, be featured in the NYC4PA Online Gallery and Award Winners Catalog. The Grand Prize winning image will be posted on the NYC4PA home page.

ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY:

Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual

reality, but instead use shapes, colors, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.

Have a look at photography from when it first became a medium for creating images and you will find portraits as well as still life, street scenes, architecture etc.  They were all accurate depictions of the subject matter. As photography evolved it ultimately became what it is today; an all encompassing art form, generated by camera and lens, and producing a vast sampling of imagery from reality to less recognizable abstracts.

This call is about those abstracts; images that are not instantly identified as that person, that thing, etc.  It doesn't matter if you photograph something abstract or create the abstraction through photographic processes. Macro shots, close ups of graffiti, fanciful post processing manipulations or just photographing something at an angle that disguises it - they all work.

As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

 - Select a unique name for each image so you can identify images when we send notification. Tea Glass1 Tea Glass 2 can be difficult.   Two images with the exact same name and then a paragraph description as difficult.

 - We prefer shorter names.

 - Filenames with special characters may not load properly

 - If you are working in Photoshop, and are using the image size screen, the file size indicated at the top is the size before any compression applied in the save process.  Please save the file as a JPG and then look at the file size.  It should be perfect.
